Frequently Asked Questions
How much will it cost to remodel my kitchen?
Since this question depends so much on so many other factors a better question might be: How much should I spend on a new kitchen? A new kitchen for a home you are remodeling should be between 10% and 15% of the home's value. For example, in a home worth $100,000 you should plan on $10,000 to $15,000. This would include a complete remodel with tear out and re-installation of new cabinetry, countertops, backsplash, flooring and some new appliances. If you are planning an addition to the house or even some construction work, this "allowance" will need to be increased substantially.
Where do I start?
The best place to start is by gathering together your budget, some magazine clippings of what you want the finished project to look like and your room dimensions (I would be happy to come out and measure for you). Then simply call (509) 489-7649 and make an appointment to meet with us at either your home or at our showroom.
Can I save money by just refacing my cabinets?
The answer is, sometimes. If you plan to do much of the work yourself and you are not moving cabinets or changing the layout, you can usually save some money by just refacing your existing cabinets. If you are changing the layout or if many of the cabinets need to be rebuilt for any reason, you may be better off replacing the cabinets all together. Remember that the doors are the expensive part of the cabinet and that refinishing the faces is often very labor intensive.
My suggestion would be to have your remodel bid both ways if this is something you are considering. Most companies provide free estimates and you would serve yourself well to know your options before ordering.

How can I be sure I’m hiring a professional?
The best place to start is by checking the company’s license with The Department of Labor & Industries https://fortress.wa.gov/lni/bbip/Search.aspx. This site allows you to check a company’s status and verify they are current with Workmen’s Compensation. You can also check to ensure their Bond and Liability Insurance are up to date. Other parts of the site have great tips about other things to think about when remodeling.
Ask the person(s) you are considering working with what professional organizations they belong to. Some organizations to check are:
- Spokane Home Builders Association:
http://www.shba.com/members_list.php - Better Business Bureau:
http://www.bbb.org/ - National Kitchen and Bath Association:
http://nkba.org/
Ask for references and check them out. Write down a list of questions concerning things that are important to you and simply call the references given and ask.
What’s the best way to get the most accurate bid for my project?
The more accurate and complete your written scope of the work you want done, the more accurate the competing bids will be. With Kitchen and Bath remodel projects, it is difficult to compare “Apples to Apples.” Everyone you talk to will have different ideas of the way things should be done and different standard products and options for everything you can imagine.
A complete bid should describe exactly what is included in the price and what is not included. This way you will be less likely to get nailed later for something that you think should have been included in the first place. A company that simply writes the price on a set of drawings hasn’t really bid your project.
